Go skiing!

Why?
Because it’s winter in Minnesota! The winter landscape is alive – come out and enjoy it. Get the workout of your life and make some new friends.

Who?
Cross-country skiing is for everyone and Minnesota has it all. From kids and families to high school and college racers, to Olympic hopefuls. Find a race, a training group or club, or a quiet getaway. Minnesota is also home to Ski for Light – supporting skiing for the visually impaired, and programming and equipment for handicapped skiers is becoming widely available.

Where?
When there’s snow on the ground, you’ll find recreational skiers everywhere – in the forests and the fields, and on lakes, boulevards, and golf courses – making their own tracks. Groomed trails are essential for fitness skiing and racing and offer a more comfortable experience for beginners and families. There are thousands of kilometers to choose from across the state.

What?
Besides snow, all you need are skis, boots, and poles. Many ski trails rent equipment and Minnesota has some of the leading retailers in the country.

When?
There’s skiing somewhere in Minnesota from Thanksgiving to Easter and snow-making has given the Twin Cities a reliable December to March season. Lighted trails also make early morning and evening skiing an option.

How?
If you can walk, you can ski! For a little help, get in touch with a local club or training group. Kids and families can get started with the Minnesota Youth Ski League. Larger trailheads and ski areas also offer lessons.
