MNSA Hires Executive Director
The Minnesota Nordic Ski Association is excited to announce the hiring of Michael Meehlhause to the position of Executive Director. Michael attended Bemidji State University where he served as the Student Senate President and received a degree in Social Studies Education. He started skiing when he was a freshman at Irondale High School and has been active throughout the Nordic Skiing community ever since. Besides returning as a volunteer to Irondale, he has recently worked as the Commissioner of the Minnesota Skinnyski Series and as an assistant coach for the TrekNorth (Bemidji, MN) High School Nordic Ski Team.
Michael brings experience in the non-profit world, starting as an intern with the City of Lakes Nordic Ski Foundation. Throughout college, Michael worked with the groups Students Today Leaders Forever, where he helped organize and lead a nine-day student-led community service trip, and the Minnesota State University Student Association, where he served on the board of directors.
“I was drawn to this organization because of my passion for Nordic Skiing and my previous experience involving a state-wide association. This activity is part of Minnesota’s culture and I’m really excited about building a unified voice for the skiing community to continue fostering its growth.”
Added Michael, “I hope that my involvement encourages others, especially young people like myself, to get involved and give back to the sport. I’ve always believed that if something is really important to you and had a profound impact on your life that you should help give back to it.”
The Minnesota Nordic Ski Association is an organization that promotes the sport of cross-country skiing in Minnesota by advocating for the funding, preservation, and enhancement of trails, supporting athletic development for all ages and abilities, encouraging education about cross-country skiing, and working directly with the State Legislature and the DNR to advance the sport.
